Getting your financing in order is very important when purchasing a home. If you are unsure of your credit, contact a credit bureau and get a credit report on yourself. If your report was not what you expected, now is the time to clear up any problems or mistakes. When shopping for mortgage lenders, it’s important to look at all factors. Everyone’s situation is different, so make sure you find the best option for you. Just because mortgage lenders quote you a low rate, that does not mean they are the best option. You need to look at both the mortgage rate AND terms of the loan. You may find lenders who’s interest rate is lower than most, but then they hit you with extremely high closing costs. Make sure you receive a good faith estimate from your lender as this will give you a pretty good idea as to the cost of your loan. After you speak with a few lenders and decide on the lender that’s right for you, it’s important to get pre-approved for a mortgage. Getting pre-approved for a mortgage gives you more buying power for when you find that perfect home.
